Introducing Nova! This sweet little girl was spotted in Hayward, posted on Reddit on Dec 30th 2025. Poor Nova – just a baby alone out in the cold. Can you even believe this amazing team managed to catch her by New Year’s Eve?!? 💪 With one of them having JUST flown back into the Bay & heading straight to the site no less! That’s dedication & compassion in action right there y’all 🙏🥹🐇🥰

A field report on Nova’s rescue: “A kind resident posted on reddit about a skittish little black rabbit who was dumped on a busy Hayward street corner. They had tried to catch it, but Nova was just too fast and scared to be caught easily.

A couple of volunteers saw the post and went out on New Year’s Eve, hoping to rescue Nova before the upcoming rain storms. When we arrived at the location, we couldn’t find Nova after looking in bushes and under cars, so we began asking folks in the neighborhood. Eventually we found her huddled next to a dumpster under a pile of discarded cardboard. We setup a double row of x-pens and attempted to catch her but she squeezed through both of them!

Thankfully another volunteer arrived at the location and our small group of 3 were able to catch Nova and transport her, cold, wet, and injured, to the vet for treatment. This wouldn’t have been possible without the help of the kind neighbors and volunteers who came together help make Nova’s rescue possible.”

The plan was for Hayward municipal shelter intake when it opened. Her overnight foster inspected her mouth and realized she was quite injured. What teeth she had were broken & falling apart – by the very next morning all her front teeth were gone. Given her medical needs, I elected to intake her. Nova’s spent the last few months with our vet who monitored her new teeth growth. She’s now headed to a foster home & we will all hope her teeth stay in the right place 🙏 I certainly wasn’t planning on sweet Nova but she needed vet attention she wasn’t going to get at the shelter & she may continue to need it as time goes 🐇

Please reach out to foster/adopt & please donate to help us continue 🙏
