Koala & Phantom<\/span><\/h2>\n

This is one of the happiest bunny couple reunions I\u2019ve ever seen. We caught this fuzzy harlequin girl bun on Sunday May 18th.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She was incredibly shy & very scared – after a week would barely exit her hidey cave if she saw me. The very best I got was a tiny brief boops and fast run away after she\u2019d been here 8 days.<\/span><\/p>\n

But this fence girl didn\u2019t just seem scared – she seemed really sad. I kept telling her we were trying to get her husbun. We saw them together on the day of her rescue but failed to get him.<\/span><\/p>\n

One brave patient soul sat for over 2 hours not moving & trying to get eyes on him. When she finally did, the team sailed in and we surrounded him & caught fence girls husbun!!<\/span><\/p>\n

When I finally got home & brought his carrier into her pen, she immediately jumped on top \u201cHe\u2019s here! Lemme at him!\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She & I were both absolutely covered in pee (and his fleas) and she\u2019s been grooming him relentlessly. She\u2019s periscoping like 15 times an hour now & I\u2019ve not seen her do that once. She\u2019s letting me pet her & even CHINNED me – from a bun who\u2019d allowed no contact, that\u2019s the clearest THANK YOU I\u2019ve ever experienced!<\/span><\/p>\n

She\u2019s got a completely different demeanor now – her behavioral change is WILD \ud83e\udd2f This girl is SO HAPPY to have her husbun back I just cannot express how beautiful it is \ud83e\udd79 Thank you from the bottom of my heart to the volunteers who DON\u2019T GIVE UP\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I wish I\u2019d taken pics\/vids upon rescue in summer 2023 – she\u2019d have made for the CRAZIEST before and afters \ud83e\udd79 But I honesty didn\u2019t think she\u2019d survive even the first few days & I didn\u2019t want the imagery to haunt me later. She was entirely without hind end mobility & maggots were eating her necrotic wounds. The smell of her was nauseating. She was treated for the necrotic wounds, severe ear mite infection & EC. Theses were sent to vets to show the improvements months after initial intake. It took a ton of vet care & rehab before I was finally convinced she\u2019d make it. Which is to say she\u2019d survive, as opposed to regaining mobility.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tilda really loved massage so that was helpful & very food motivated so I made islands of wheatgrass flats to encourage her hopping. She was also very motivated to hop to visit other incoming rescue buns \ud83e\udd79 Due to her minimal bladder control & limited mobility, she required constant cleanup & changes to her enclosure (a padded pen to be safe when rolling and wobbling around). Due to her large size, Tilda required another person to help with her butt baths. A good friend & bunny volunteer stepped up to the task to help us \ud83d\ude4f<\/span><\/p>\n

She says \u201cThe time, cost and overall dedication she showed to Tilda\u2019s rehabilitation was so inspiring. I\u2019ve never seen anything like it. During the course of the first 6 months, Tilda went from barely able to move at all to wobbling away on her own when she was clean and dry. Watching her mane grow in has been amazing – she looks like a different rabbit!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

When she was finally moving her back legs & gaining some control of her wobbly movement, she needed to go to an experienced medical foster (with free roam space) in order for her to further redevelop her physical abilities. To be quite honest, I didn\u2019t want to let her go! But she deserved to have more and I cannot express how amazing it was to see that first video of her tackling a step without toppling over \ud83e\udd79<\/span><\/p>\n
